Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax-- Of cabbages--and kings--

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

The Walrus and The Carpenter by Lewis Carrol.

.
.
.
But regardless of whether or not pigs have wings - I secretly think that they do - I am in love with Sally Jane Vintage and all of her wonderful vintage shoe finds, of which she has many. Such as these and these, which I particularly love.

A. Denomay

I have fallen completely, totally and hopelessly in love with A. Denomay's photography. Especially these two photographs, Voltaic and After Tomorrow respectively.

Flickr Favorites V

hmmm, so maybe, just maybe, I've been going a little bit overboard with faving on Flickr but I just can't seem to stop myself. If I see something that I think is pretty I just have to favorite it so that I can go back and look at its prettiness another time.

Long time no post.

I didn't realise just how long it had been since my last post. oppsie.

But big things happened. Such as I moved house and . . . well no that is pretty much it for big things.

I promise more blog post soon though.

Today I love

one.

Rain. It hadn't rained for almost two weeks and I was starting to get worried that winter was coming to an end but the rain graced us with its presence tonight : ). However is was rather brief and it is very dark outside so I wasn't able to get a photograph of it but I will share a wonderful one that I found in Google images and that I'm sure the rain tonight looked very similar to.

two.

New Found Glory which is a rather delightful punk-pop band from South Florida. I am most fond of the song Too Good To Be, which over the past 3ish weeks I have played 300+ times with the rest of the album's play count coming in close to that.

There is just something about it that I keep on coming back to. Every time that I put another band on I get fed up with it pretty quickly and put New Found Glory on again - even Fall Out Boy, who I have had a long living love affair with.

Htebazile Nodsdoh

. . . is my Jedi name.

This morning, on the radio, they were asking what everyone's Chinese Olympic name was (in complete bad taste I thought but still mildly amusing) - the first three letters of the street you live on and then the first 3 letters of your mother's maiden name - and I got to thinking about all of the others, like Rock Star name and Stripper name, and I came across a website that listed a heap of different ones. I'm rather fond of my Soap Opera name - Elizabeth Lawley.

Anyway, I can't even remember the point of this post so I guess I'm just going to have to leave it there.

Oh wait, I remember now.

And I saw the Jedi one and fell completely in love.

The End.

and this equally loverly Marmalade Cat Dress. It truly is loverly also.

"C-3PO: He made a fair move. Screaming about it can't help you.

Han Solo: Let him have it. It's not wise to upset a Wookiee.
C-3PO: But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a droid.

Han Solo: That's 'cause droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that.

Chewbacca: Grrf.

C-3PO: I see your point, sir. I suggest a new strategy, R2: let the Wookiee win."

Is my favorite beyond favorite Star Wars quote, I even very nearly once got it printed on a t-shirt.

I was reading this post by quietmilk the other day and while I don't agree with her about not liking Star Wars - "I find your lack of faith disturbing." - , as I am a long time lover, I now have a desperate craving for some Star Wars Bubble Gum.

Flickr Favorites III

I appoligise for the lack of posting of late but would like to share with you some more of my Flickr favorites.
I kind of went crazy the other day and went on a faving spree - mainly of the same person as well. Oh well, it's always nice to appreciate good art.

Crying Glasses

I have recently fallen in love with this photograph, I'm not entirely sure why but for some reason I just feel drawn to it. However, I'm having some trouble working out who it actually belongs to. I first spotted it in a Contextualizing the Garment uni manual that my Textiles tutor lent me for research on my final creative art piece for that unit and the photo was attributed to Helmut Newton, who was a German-Australian fashion photographer, but when I got home and looked him up his website made no mention of this photograph at all. So then I looked up the title of the image and found Hayley Newman's website so as far as I can tell the photograph is of her during a social experiment of some kind, which is helpful because now I know who it is of (and also whose idea it was) but not who actually took it because so far I have been able to find at least two names that have been credited to it (I thought that there was also a third but when I went looking for it just then I was unable to find it) - Casey Orr and Christina Lamb. If anyone knows anything that might solve the mystery it would be greatly appreciated as it has been bugging me for a while now but regardless it is a wonderful photograph that I wanted to share.

Breaking Dawn

Considering that I get mildly giggly, okay make that very giggly, every time I think about the impending release of Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer I thought that I would share this wonderful count down thingymagig.

"It is the flagrant lack of practicality that makes high heel shoes so fascinating."

Which I believe was said by Stephen Bayley.

But anyway, to the point, I was browsing Flickr, as one does at 1 in the morning, and I came across these two pairs of shoes. The above (the white pair) I have fallen totally and hopelessly in love with, I don't think that I have ever wanted a pair of shoes as much as I want these shoes. And the other ones I have also fallen in love with, but to a lesser degree, as in I think that I will survive if I don't have them.

The pair of shoes that I really want would be a mix to the black and white pair and the shoes that i talked about in this post - for them to look like the shoes that I already have but for them to have this pairs colouring. hmmm. love.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

A year ago today.

It is kind of sad. I miss Harry Potter. It was fun looking forward to the next book coming out but now its done. I'm definitely not obsessed with the series as I used to be, I think the story not being finished had a lot to do with that. Because (yes, I know that it is very bad grammar to start a sentence with 'because' but it just needs to be done) you didn't know how the story was going to finish so you had to keep on reading until it was and now that it is - well, it's just different now.

And (yes I know, another grammar faux pas) I don't care what people say about how we still have the movies to go, it just doesn't compare. We already know what is going to happen. The excitement is different, sure it is exciting waiting for the next movie to come out but IT IS a different type of excitement - with waiting for the next book it was the excitement of the unknown, waiting to find out how the series was going to end, waiting to see what was going to happen to to the beloved and not so loved characters that I had grown up with. Like I said, it's just different now.

VIS2512

Textiles Final Creative Project.

I'm mildly proud of it.
We had to choose a theme and then build off of that - my theme was childhood. Childhood in general, my childhood and others' childhood. For the silhouettes of the girls I made potato stamps (like you do in pre-primary) and for the rest I used stamps left over from my Aunts card making faze.

Annie and Oliver (yes I named a female Oliver, I think it suits her
)

I cried because I had no shoes

But then I went out and bought a new pair.

I am completely totally and utterly in love with my brand spanking new pair of brogue heals. I love them completely. I do however need to get a skirt that will go with them as I cant wear jeans with them for the rest of their life, although they do look rather nice with my dark blue straight legs.

hmmm.

Oh well, shoe dilemma for another day.

Why join the Navy when you can be a pirate

Yes, yes.

I just realised that never before, in all of my 4 previous posts, have I mention what it is that I do. Currently I've got 3 designs (all girls) and I draw them onto fabric (t-shirts, tote bags and the like) and then sew their clothing on.

Bessie, Molly and Lanna (named for Rheannalanalan), modeled by the lovely Amecia and Rheanna

acai-blueberry-pomegranate (tripple antioxidants)

Are the three main ingredients in this yummie Vitamin Water that I've been drinking and no I don't drink it because it is 'Vitamin Water' but because it tastes nice.

And in other more textiles related news I finally have photos of my bags. Rheanna and Meekaleeka help me out today with them and I'll post some as soon as I can be bother resizing and editing and stuff. yep yep, cant wait.

I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone.

This is Molly. This is, however, Molly on her very best behavior, her hair isn’t usually quite so neat and her ribbons aren’t usually still in, she’s surprised us all by still having her socks pulled up and her dress still neat and tidy and devoid of dirt.

Molly might be a bit of a little rascal, I guess that’s what you get when you grow up in a house full of boys, but she is, underneath it all, quite sweet and a lovely child. You can tell already that she’s going to grow up to be quite the little heartbreaker.

Bessie

I'd like to introduce you to Bessie. Bessie, short for Elizabeth and named for Bessie in Enid Blyton's Magic Faraway Tree series, while always wearing the same outfit (she's really awfully fond of it), she wears this outfit proudly and in many different colours.

Bessie is a lovely girl who while not the most outgoing person is certainly not shy. I’ve known her for almost two years now but to someone who doesn’t know her she may come across as a bit of a plain Jane but to her friends she is one of the most interesting and individual people they know.

She can generally be found at the library, reading anything and everything, she is always striving to expand her knowledge of the world. She is however awfully fond of those trashy teen fantasy romances.

Previous 'Quote of the moment'

As we know, there are no known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.
- Donald Rumsfield

A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face. It is one of the few havens remaining where a man's mind can get both provocation and privacy.
- Edward P. Morgan

Welcome to Dear Tilly (the name of my to be brick and mortar shop)
